Long Island Serial Killer news updates

Monday, the mother of slain woman, Melissa Barthelemy, spoke out on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ about her daughter, a possible victim of the Craigslist Long Island serial killer.

Melissa was one of the four women identified among the remains discovered on a Long Island barrier island over the past few months. Lynn Barthelemy, her mother is heartbroken and now worries about her younger daughter, Amanda, whom the serial killer phoned several times after Melissa vanished.

The taunting calls remain the biggest leads to date in the search for the elusive serial killer.

Melissa went missing after leaving her Bronx, NY apartment on July 10, 2009. The next day, Amanda, 16, received a call from her sister’s phone. When she answered, a male voice on the other end of the line asked, “Is this Melissa’s little sister?”

She replied, “Yes”

The caller then asked, “Do you know what your sister is doing?” He added, “She’s a whore.”

Police believe the man who kidnapped and strangled Melissa made the call. He continued to call and text Amanda over the following six weeks. Due to the calls, police were able to pinpoint the caller’s location to certain areas in New York, including Times Square, Madison Square Garden and Massapequa.

Although Melissa had aspired to become a hair stylist, she was offering sexual services on Craigslist to make ends meet. Amanda knew the truth, but Lynn said she thought her daughter was working as an exotic dancer to pay the bills.
